16 week visit

Yesterday we met with the doctor to check the babies progress. We went half expecting to leave with a good idea of the gender, however it is just too soon to tell. We’ll have to wait another 3 weeks before the big reveal.

While there Madison had her blood drawn so that they could do a quad screen which tests for problems in the development of the fetus’s brain and spinal cord as well as genetic disorders such as Down syndrome. We’ve already heard back today that the test came back negative and the baby is completely healthy. Although we never anticipated any health issues it is sure a relief to hear that they haven’t found any.

In other news, we’re starting to get serious about taking regular pictures of Madison’s stomach profile to document her growth and to make something cool with the pictures down the line. We plan on getting one of those belly casts at some point as well to have a lasting outline of her bulging stomach.

That’s all.

Baby Stuff

Posted on by thedesignary Posted in Blog | 1 Comment

In preparation for the baby we’re trying to get as much stuff done around the house as possible so we don’t have to worry about that as much once the delivery date gets closer.  This has meant loads of yard work.  Madison and I both had thumbs that came no where near resembling a color close to green when the summer began, but now we’re weed pulling, plant splitting, bed mulching fools.  Those yard endeavors have taken up quite a bit of our time, but we’re better for having done it.

Lets see, more baby stuff….Ok so Madison found out she has an umbilical hernia which caused her belly button to pop prematurely and also causes her quite a bit of pain depending on the day and stress level.  She’s a trooper though so no worries.

In the last couple of days we’ve done a small amount of shopping for the baby.  We hit up a local crafters market on Saturday and grabbed a cool little hat that will come in handy come December when we get to meet the little one.  On top of that we scored the coolest pacifier ever (see picture).  Today we went up to Babies R Us in Schaumburg to scope out what we’re in for once we start getting serious about getting everything for the baby.  Strollers and baby monitors and bedding and clothes and pack n plays were all viewed and analyzed.  Our favorite find was a crib that at the moment we have to have.  Madison posed with it just so we could show everyone.

Tomorrow is our 16 week appointment and since we’ve decided we want to find out what we’re having, we are nervously anticipating catching a sneak peek of the baby’s gender.  Officially the date to find out is August 5th, but who knows, there might be some evidence one way or another tomorrow.

The last fun fact for this post is that our baby is the size of a turnip this week so that’s definitely a step up from the avocado last week.

Ciao for now.

Long Overdue

So I realize it’s been a while since our last update, but like everyone we’ve been super busy.  In as much detail as I can muster I’ll give an outline of what we’ve been up to and what we’ve got on the horizon.

At the beginning of June, I (Tim) was in my friend Ryan’s wedding in California.  It was quite a scheduling nightmare seeing as the dance recital Madison works on all year for work was the same weekend and she had to fly out later.  Here’s how we pulled it off.

I flew into San Francisco Thursday afternoon, rented a car and drove to Half Moon Bay to hang with my parents.  My dad put me up in the hotel he manages, which is amazing by the way, and we went and golfed the ocean course at Half Moon Bay Country Club.  The weather was great.  I snapped a couple pics while my dad was hacking away.

Friday afternoon I drove down to San Luis Obispo which is about 20 minutes from Nipomo where the wedding was at.  I met up with friends and hung out until the rehearsal that night.  It was at a very cool venue called Gieuseppe’s.  Ryan gave all the groomsmen a tie to wear the next day, a personalized t-shirt and a beer stein representing either the Sox or the Cubs depending on who you root for (Sox for me).

Saturday morning was pretty much relaxing and doing some last minute shopping for Best Man speech props.  I wasn’t the best man, I just assisted.  Here’s where it got tricky.  I had to be at the reception hall for pictures at 12:45 and Madison was flying into Santa Maria airport at 11:30.  That left me an hour and fifteen minutes to drive her the 20 miles back to our hotel, get us showered and changed and then another 20 minutes back to take pictures.  We made it in the knick of time, but man if we didn’t cut it close.

The wedding was awesome, probably the coolest venue ever (See picture).

The rest of the trip was Me, Madison and the stow away in Madison’s abdomen driving up Highway 1, visiting Hearst Castle, hitting up San Francisco, going to a Crosby, Stills & Nash concert and lounging in our posh hotel room (provided by my Dad once again).  Along the way we grabbed a Stanford onesie since my mom works there, hung out at Alamo Square (home of the Full House house) and enjoyed a little R&R.

We got back into Chicago in just enough time to hear the Hawks win the Stanley Cup in overtime on the radio.

More fun details of our life in the next post.
