4 Weeks Old Already!

Look at that mean mug!

Holy cow, I can’t believe Cohen is already 4 weeks old.  Time is flying by so quickly, it’s crazy!  He changes every single day and it’s so amazing to watch him learning and growing literally in front of our eyes.

Look at those chubby cheeks and my double chin!

He has recently found his hands, and loves sticking them in his mouth and moving them slowly in front of his face.  You can really see him working to figure out exactly what they are and what they do.  The same goes with his facial expressions when looking at just about anything. When you hold him, you can see him really trying to focus on your face and when he’s on the floor, in his seat or on his playmat, he is always very interested in whatever he can focus his little eyes on.  He particularly loves the ceiling fan in our room.

I love to make faces!

We’ve come to find out that Cohen is not one for silence.  He definitely likes noise, and the second it gets too quiet, especially during his nap, he starts to squirm.  He got a “Sleep Sheep” as a gift, and more recently also a travel version of this, and we’ve found this to be his new best friend.  The Sleep Sheep is a white noise machine, in the form of a super cuddly sheep.  It makes the sounds of a whale, the ocean, rain, or a heartbeat.  This has been great for naps, as well as during his fussy time at night.  It definitely calms him down.  The same goes for his Lamb Seat…or as we call it, Lamby. This seat plays music and vibrates and Cohen just loves this.  This is where he takes his short morning nap because it’s easy for me to cart him around the house with me in this seat, if need be.

We recently starting integrating his fancy crib into nap time and Cohen LOVES it.  I think it won’t be long before he starts sleeping in there at night.  He’s a noisy sleeper…lots of grunting and self soothing…this is super cute, but keeps Mommy & Daddy up!  And he really does like his crib and sleeps very well in there, so really it’s just a matter of us being ready for him to not be in our room!

First nap in my big boy crib – I LOVE IT!

On Monday night, Cohen pretty much slept through the night!  He had a very fussy day on Monday due to Mommy eating spicy spaghetti on Sunday night…therefore, when he finally did go down for the night about 10:00, both he and Mommy were out…and Cohen slept until 5:15!!  Needless to say, the whole family was a little bit more refreshed yesterday!  We’re hoping that this trend will start to continue soon…but we know he’s a growing boy and isn’t quite ready for an exact schedule yet.  I do like to make sure to feed him right before I go to bed, though, so his tummy is nice and full and hopefully keeps him calm for a few hours! That’s been working out well and really aside from a few fussy nights, he sleeps for about 4 – 4.5 hours at any given stretch…and we love that!

I'm a happy boy because I got SOOO much sleep!

I think Tim would agree with me when I say that having Cohen in our lives has been so much fun and really even better than we ever thought it would be.  He’s so funny and smart and handsome – and really that’s all just while he naps!  I can’t wait until he actually becomes more active!  We’re all looking forward to the weather warming up, Moe included, when we can get outside with our fancy stroller and start taking walks and exploring!

I’ll leave you with one last picture – of our super smart boy – holding his nuk…

Thank you for checking in!  We hope that all is well with everyone!

Newborn Check Up

Posted on by thedesignary Posted in Blog | 2 Comments

Cohen had his newborn wellness check yesterday at Dr. Best’s office in Marseilles and it went surprisingly well.  I (Madison) was pretty concerned as I know babies tend to cry when they are naked in a cold doctor’s office being poked and prodded…not our son, though, he was a champ!  He currently weighs in at 7 lbs 6 oz and is still 19 inches long with a head circumference of 35 cm.  Being a fan of his changing table at home, he found the changing table/scale to be the Cadillac of all changing tables and made himself right at home.  Grandma Michele went with us to the appointment and it was great to have her there because she was able to give Cohen a bottle and keep him pacified while I asked Dr. Best the one thousand questions that Tim and I had prepared!  I felt a lot more comfortable after leaving his appointment, having so many of my questions answered and my own worries pacified!

Today we’ve had a remarkably lazy day after so much running around yesterday.  After the doctor’s appointment, we took our first trip to Walmart together, in which Cohen slept through entirely!  He was such a good boy…I was actually jealous of him being able to sleep in the cart through a trip to Walmart.  It sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Tonight we will be ringing in the New Year – assuming we can stay awake that long.  It will be the first time in a long time that Tim and I will stay in on New Year’s.  This decade has shaped up to be a really good one!  Considering I don’t remember starting the ’90s, it’s been fun remembering where I was when I rang in 2000 and where we are now!  I’m guessing the next decade will be full of just as much excitement for us and we are really looking forward to it!

We hope that everyone has a fun and safe New Year’s!

2 Weeks Old!

The last two weeks have flown by! I can’t believe Cohen is already two weeks old. He has already grown and changed so much! We have been having lots of fun with him and I think we are getting the hang of parenting and figuring out what he wants when he’s fussing…which is rare. Cohen has been such a good baby – we feel so blessed. He makes it so easy for us to learn how to be parents. Cohen sleeps about 5 hours at a stretch at night and that has been great. The last few days he’s seemed to get his days and nights confused a little bit. When he wakes up to eat he wants to have some awake time…and mommy wants sleep! Moe has done particularly well with Cohen being at home. He has had no issues with jealousy or anything; in fact, when visitors come to the door he immediately runs to where Cohen is and stands by his side. It’s really cute to see him protecting his brother.

We had a great first Christmas together as a family. It was so nice to have Cohen here to celebrate with us and I think everyone would agree that he made this Christmas even more special. We had a very busy first two weeks but it’s been awesome to have all the support we have had. It was especially great because Cohen has been able to meet both sets of grandparents, as Tim’s parents were in town last week when we got home from the hospital. It was nice that everyone has had a chance to bond with him so early!

Tim has been back at work now for the last week so it’s just been me and Cohen at home. We miss having Daddy here…his time at home with us went way too fast, but we look forward to the evening when he gets home. Tomorrow we will have Cohen’s first doctor’s appointment. My mom is going with us to the appointment because Tim has to work. I’m really looking forward to seeing how much he weighs now because looking at him, he definitely seems bigger and he sure does have a healthy appetite! I’ll make sure to update after we get back. Here are some pictures from our time at home so far!! We sure do think he’s pretty cute!! Thanks for checking in and we hope that everyone has a safe and happy New Year!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

I’m sure Tim will agree that as he celebrates his 28th birthday today from our hospital room that he’s received the best gift of all!

That being said, happy birthday daddy!!

We love you!!
